Need beta testers for the latest version of SWIFT

Hello Swiftler’s,

I need your help. I made some major changes to the back-end of the theme. Earlier each option of the SWIFT was stored in a separate variable, that’s 200+ records related to the swift in the options table. Though mysql database can handle such number of records easily, it’s not a good practice. So I moved all the options related to SWIFT to two arrays namely swift_opt and swift_design_opt.

This move to using arrays for storing options required changes to all the template files, there might be some bugs which crept in the process. Please test the theme on your local server and report if there are any bugs.

This new version of SWIFT imports the options from the earlier version into the array, please check if it’s doing it correctly.

  1. Satish, I noticed another thing.
I have added additional links to the top navigation bar which shows the pages. Added them through swift options–>Header.
The links that I have added also have the prefix of my home url. You can check this on my website.
In the options, I have entered the link as indicated: <li><a href=”http://photoblog.hitchedhiker.com”>Photoblog</a></li>
On the website it comes as: http://hitchedhiker.com/“http://photoblog.hitchedhiker.com/”
By the way, when do you expect to release the new version?

  2. I have not used the earlier versions but am testing this.  However, I think I am missing something – how do I have 3 columns on the home page?  Looks like it is an either or but not both a right and left column.

  3. Another suggestion for the admin area. After a save the screen refreshes to the first option screen instead of remaining on the screen on which the “Save” was performed.
For example: In the “Design Options” section, if I “Save” on “Colors”, the page refreshes and goes to “Layout Options”. Ideally it should stay on the “Colors” option.

  4. Hi,
Just activated Swift5.2 on my blog.
    Bad News:

Feedburner counter is not showing up in the sidebar. Image missing
All the images on the home screen and the single page are resized to max width bu timthumb (i am guessing).
No. 2 does not happen in Magazine mode on the home page, only in Blog mode. Still there in single page
Archives page images are also max width in both Mag and Blog view. There is also no difference in the layout of the page. Both Mag and Blog give same result.

    Good News:

    Colours work great 🙂

    In General:
The ad space in the header does not align well with a custom logo. In my case I changed the margin to -1.5em for top.
Will notify of any other things as I see them.

  5. I wish I had not made the last comment as now the thumbnails in the sliders have gone to full size! Anyone know how to get these back to thumb size?

Ray, I am not seeing the problem with the images as you mentioned.  BTW, your site is very nice!

  6. I installed v5.2 clean for a new blog.  I’m seeing two problems with v5.2 that I have not experienced with v5.14/v5.19 for a different blog.
    1) In blog mode, I set x# of featured posts, y# of blog posts, zero full posts to be displayed.  The featured posts is working fine.  But, no matter how many blog posts I set, I always get 4, and the rest of the posts are displayed in full.
    2) On the single posts page, my images are auto-resizing to the max width of the content area.

    1. …and…
      3) Thumbnail pics on the home page are also exploding to enormous size (just as in #2 above).
As far as the size of the image goes, they appear to load properly, then recalc and resize.  Is there a configuration setting that controls this?  Or is it in the template code?

      1. Jeff, I agree with you,
There is problem with thumbnail. the image looks unnecessary zoom. So, I also moved to v.5.19 .Due to lack of time, I am not in a position to spent more time to resolve the issue otherwise, I guess this issue can be resolved. Will take of it, by downloading v.5.2 again withing coming days.

  7. I’m installing it from the wordpress/extend/themes and I just got a blank page after installing it.
If you need some beta tester I can help you. My weblog has a lot of visits daily.
    Thanks.

  8. I installed new theme and its working great for all except popular post, while enabling popular post its showing categories just above the post so I turned it off , otherwise its fine.

  9. I love your theme, I am a web developer too so it will be great to test your theme and I am new at blogging so I am not getting too much visitor so I am not bothering about ,if something goes wrong. I am gonna istall now , i will reply soon how it works.

  10. In the process of testing Swift before installing it on my real site. A couple of quick questions / requests for future versions:
    * Show tags for posts (is this there already? I couldn’t find it)
    * Limit categories of posts shown in excerpts / magazine layout on home page (e.g., I choose to show one category in featured posts, I don’t want to show any of those category on the rest of the page)
    * Ability to edit the content of the tabs (e.g., I would like to remove “Recent” and put in “About”)
Can you let me know especially about the first question — showing tags for posts? Thanks.

  11. Somehow the theme self-activated itself once I uploaded it to my server, and no, the color settings didn’t come across. I reactivated 5.1.3 from WordPress and the old settings were still in place, more or less, but the category navbar was out of whack.
I do like the overall improvements, and maybe the the arrays will port more easily between subsequent versions of Swift. But it’s not working perfectly going from 5.1.x to 5.2.0-beta, just as it didn’t going from 4.x.x versions to 5.0. I try to do my sitework on off hours now, since I figure some tweaks will be needed no matter what.
