This week two clients approached me for SEO check of their sites as there was a sudden drop in search ranking and traffic. When I checked their sites, I was shocked.
Some of the plugins they were using were messing with the SEO of the site.
I found two such plugins on one blog, and one on the other.
The plugin they were using are
- Keyword Statistics (Found on both blogs I investigated)
- Auto Keywords and Description Generator
Keyword’s statistics plugin added noindex tag to the site, i.e., it was asking the search engine bot’s not to crawl the pages.

Auto Keywords and Description Generator plugin added crap to the site, see screenshot below.

The plugin in question is Keyword Statistics . If you are using this plugin, make sure that it doesn’t add irrelevant meta info to the page.
If you notice a sudden drop in the traffic after switching to a new theme or installing a new plug-in, check the source to find out if the plugin/theme added any irrelevant meta tags that might ruin your search rankings.
Make it a habit to check the source code of your site regularly, a plugin you installed recently or the java script you added might be adding malicious code to your pages.
If you are switching to a different theme from SWIFT, you might experience a drop in traffic. Don’t blame your new them, we have put too much SEO into SWIFT.
yes it will ruin our search engine ranking. i have uninstalled it before.
Wow nice i uninstalled it. 🙂 Thanks
You learn new things every day. This was very useful information, I have the “keyword Stat” plug-in on 2 of my sites. I had no idea it could mess up with my SEO. It did in fact add useless code to my Meta tag, I corrected the mistake, I guess I should be fine now.
