It’s time to plan the next version Swift, requesting your feedback

Swift-Theme-Growth

I will start working on the next update of Swift in a couple of days.  I will need your valuable suggestions to make it more useful for you and future users. I have some ideas based on the support questions and the customization projects I worked on. If you have any suggestion, request or  a problem, however small it may be feel free to ask in the comments.

Swift wouldn’t be what it is if not for your valuable feedback.
Thank you for using the theme and helping it grow.

Here is the list of things I planned to include in this update

  • Add Woo commerce support.
  • One more news paper layout.
  • Page/post specific ads.
  • More robust ad management for mobiles.
  • Improve responsive layout.
  • Responsive images ( Load different sizes of the images for mobile and desktop for optimum performance )
  • Defer loading of JS for better performance on mobiles.
  • Sticky “post navigation” with social share and logo.

Here is what Swiftler’s suggested so far..

  • Option to replace the regular slider with custom content.
  • Improvements to font’s section.
  • Better default typography.
  • Option to specify the image used when sharing the post on facebook.
  • Allow users on mobile to pick which version of the site they want to see desktop vs mobile.
  • One click option to make the design flat.

  1. Can we get the Digg CSS and Script removed from Autoloading? I feel like Digg isn’t as useful anymore but also, I can’t seem to find out where in the code to remove Digg. On average the digg css/javasript is adding 289 ms to my page load time.

Custom scripts by page or post would be awesome. I have Optimizely and run tests, but I don’t need to have the script load on every single page–just the pages I want to test. I imagine there’s other tools that would fall under this benefit as well. Although, I imaging using Google’s Tag Manager service could accomplish this as well.

Finally, the option to have a custom Logo added as a CSS Sprite instead of loading a separate image. That would shave off one more request.

    1. 1. Taken care in v7
      2. Not feasible for a theme designed to be used in thousands of sites. Also considering the scripts would be cached, not a huge saving.
      3. Can not be generalised for all sites. Have to be done for each site individually.

  2. I have been using swift for over a year now and it works well. Satish is awesome and provides timely and personal attention when you are customizing your theme! Feel free to check out my website for an example of the switft theme in use. I tried the newspaper layout initially but it was not very user friendly and I ended up just reverting to a static front page with some php edits and custom CSS through wp-admin. I think the key here is to keep things simple and transparent and still closely related to the base twenty-twelve etc., themes so plugins are compatible. I like the idea of the drag and drop front page set-up in the wp-admin or even taking it to the next level with some transparent instructions here on the site with code examples on creating our own php frontpage based on the theme functions and classes.

  3. Please add a property to disable right-clicking
To protect the content of the site on the Theme
And protect the content of my website from theft
    And the property
Main site – Chgar / disable
Categories and tags – Chgar / disable
The article – run / disable
    Media – run / disable

  4. I’d like to see more options for the image slider, so that instead of just one category or recent posts, it could be set for specific images and links. In this way it could be used for popular posts, or seasonal content, or whatever the site wants to showcase, not just recent content.

And the search box on the nav bar has a bug – the box keeps filling with blank spaces which stop it displaying. And the sticky nav bar isn’t working too, can these little things be fixed please?

  5. Hi Satish,

I am really happy with swift theme and I use it for almost most of my blogs. I would love to see a drag and drop front page creator instead of some pre designed newspaper theme.
The custom font sections can be improved as well.
Beside that if mobile view can be made optimized for better look and speed then it will be awesome.

Its one of the most awesome theme that has backed me up every time.. Thanks for it
