Installing and updating SWIFT theme

Installing SWIFT theme

Installing SWIFT is no different from any other WordPress theme. But just to be safe, goto Import/Export page, and back up your Swift Design options and Swift site options.

  • Download SWIFT from the members area if you are a Pro user, free version is available on WordPress.Org
  • Extract it and upload it to wp-content/themes folder and (0r) you use the built in uploader in WordPress [ appearance -> themes-> install themes -> upload ]
  • Activate it from the theme management page.

Don’t forget to goto the options page and explore various options included in SWIFT.

Updating SWIFT

  • Download the latest version SWIFT from the downloads page.
  • Extract it and upload to wp-content/themes folder, do not delete the old theme files or replace them. If there is a clash of folder names, rename one of them.
  • Now activate the latest version from the theme management page.
  • Goto SWIFT options page and save changes.
  • Goto SWIFT design options page and save changes.

None of the customizations done from the theme options page and the settings will be lost during update (Unless otherwise stated in the release notes). Single set of options are used for all versions of the theme, resetting options will have effect on all versions of the theme.

Use import/export option of SWIFT to backup your theme settings before you start making any major changes to your site.

How to take a backup of SWIFT theme options and import them

Goto SWIFT import/export options page, you will find two huge text boxes with a very very long text string. Copy each one of them and save them to two separate text files.
To import, copy the text string from your backup and paste the options back and click “import export options” button.
