Error on theme activation

Hello,

I am getting this error on theme activation. It seems to be causing problems, as the header menus are just showing plain text links:

I have the same problem. I just got the latest version, but still have the same problem

I must be doing something wrong. I've tried the following versions: 5.25, 5.28, 5.29, 5.43, 5.50... but whichever version I try I get permission errors in the admin-core.php file. I've even tried changing all of the permissions to 777, but still no luck. It must be me... but I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, because I LOVE this theme!
