Widgets not adding to rightand sidebar

I am not sure why but whenever I try to add any widget to the righthand sidebar, nothing appears on the site. I drag and place the widgets in their appropriate spaces, but nothing on the site actually changes.

Which right hand sidebar are you adding them to? I see the footer widgets, but your sidebar widget placement will depend on which layout you're using.

The widgets in the footer work - nothing in any areas on the right do though (as far as I know there is only one righthand sidebar in my layout?) I can drag and drop a widget to any of the sidebar areas (i.e. Right Bottom) but it will not appear on the actual site. I have a big empty space between the righthand/top box and the righthand footer. I have filled it with a picture for now, but would really like to insert widgets there
