SWIFT user community is now powered by BuddyPress

BuddyPress IconsI migrated the vBulletin forum to BuddyPress yesterday. If you are following SWIFT theme from the beginning you must be knowing that the support forum was first powered by bbPress, I migrated it to vBulletin as bbPress had limited functionality and vBulletin was more user-friendly though it attracted a lot of spam. Now that I’m developing BubbyPress version of SWIFT, it doesn’t feel right to have the forum powered by some overpriced piece of software.

Here are some other reasons why im not using vBulletin anymore..

  • It requires a separate username and login, there are some plugins to bridge the users but they dint work well.
  • Attracts lot of spam.
  • Registration of users is not very smooth.
  • It lacks community features.

The import process was not very smooth as there were no converters available. First i had to migrate vBulletin forum to phpbb3 and then to bbPress. I managed to import the users and posts without any loss, but I’m not sure if your old passwords will work. If the don’t you can recover them from this page

Note: You should be member of a group before you can post in it. If you face any problems in accessing the forum or posting on the forum, please post theme here.

  1. Is there any way to migrate from BuddyPress to vBulletin? Forums posts and users only

  2. While wordpress can be easy to use, it isn’t necessarily so, especially if you want things to look exactly like you want them, and not how your template defines.

  3. Still looks like vbulletin to me. Did the migration not go well?

  4. Wow great news, been trying to tweak the theme (with my limited php knowledge) for my gaming blog.. glad to know you’re working on buddypress version =)

  5. Wow, congrats on quite an achievement! I work extensively with BuddyPress and I know what it can be like. Are you on the BuddyPress forums?
